Biden will choose a rational, normal, humane person to replace RBG. He will spell an end to kids in cages at the border. He will not take any direct steps to dismantle the social safety net. He will be a return to normalcy,and for right now that is enough.

If young people voted at the rates that old people vote, we could have progressive candidates. The question is: how do we get young people to show up?

Our media has been obsessed with "both sides do it" and "both sides are the same" narratives for so long that two entire generations have become convinced that it's the truth. How do we show them that there is in fact a big difference between a standard issue Dem (Clinton, Biden, etc) and a standard issue Republican (Trump, Bush the lesser, etc)?

Not encouraging all primary candidates to fall on their sword for the party's anointed one would be a good start.

Leveling the financial playing field would be the next step.

Also, Trump is most definitely not a standard issue Republican. Most Republicans I know as people and not caricatures dislike the guy a great deal, but he'll stay away from their sacred cows so they hold their nose and vote for him.

His judicial picks, his hobby-horse issues, his drive to gut the social safety net and transfer wealth to the upperclasses are all 100% standard fare for any Republican. Ditto his racism, homophobia, and religious bigotry. The only differences are his utter incompetence and his penchant for saying the quiet parts out loud. He is a Republican unmasked. Jeb! (TM) would have given us the same judicial nominees, the same tax scam, the same attempts to kill ACA. He just would have done it in more urbane, quiet manner. Don't kid yourself - Trump is the Republican party. He is what they have been working toward for 40 plus years, which is why he is more beloved of the rank and file than even saint Ronnie.

The Evangelicals (which are the Republican base) put his name on the church signs now.

It still blows my mind that out of all the potential candidates, Joe Biden is the one that will get the democratic nomination.

I haven't talked to any friends that are excited about a Biden presidency the way people were passionate for Bernie Sanders.
