David: Reddit
I understand the thirst for training data, but these companies that are so eager to license Reddit's data are about to make a bunch of unhelpful little edge lord bots.

We need a nonviolent Tyler Durden / Mr. Robot to hit a reset button here.

David: Half Life Alyx: UPDATE
This is like when that little graphic and music came in during Unsolved Mysteries.

My son got a gaming computer for Christmas, so I decided to dive into Half Life Alyx after reading the plot synopsis over 3 years ago. All I remembered were some of the ending shenanigans, so it was a pretty clean slate.

I'm not a VR convert by any stretch, but damn that was a fun experience. I was surprised how natural some of the gunplay felt, and as someone who has been trying to manifest force powers since I was a toddler, gravity gloves were nice.

Still hate that ending though.

David: Ahsoka
I want to talk about this show. A lot.

Andor was phenomenally well done, and still ranks as my favorite interpretation of the Star Wars galaxy. Ahsoka, though, is Filoni let loose in live action and targeting an adult audience. It's wild. As someone who pushed myself through the kiddie cartoons chasing snippets of lore, seeing those characters and moments come to life without the silliness has been great.

Also. Thrawn. Thrawn! If something had to make it out of legends into this new canon, I'm glad it was him.

David: A Treatise on Pets
The ideal pet provides entertainment and companionship to the owner when desired, and fucks off when unwanted.

Cat people want to observe a pet.

Dog people always want a pet that needs them.

All other pets are novelties.

My owner forgot to feed me and I died.

The End.

David: Age Is Killing My Concept of Time
Things I've learned or accepted in the past five years:

(Can we still do html inside of.a Vent post? Fuck it, let's find out.)

  • Lagavulin is great, but Ardbeg's Wee Beastie is the perfect amount of peat.

  • Manifestation does not equal creation

  • Gregory House was (is?) right. Everyone lies.

  • The internet as we know it is lost, but there will be a next thing and we have got to get in there and make sure it stays decentralized from the outset.

  • Video game consoles are just bad computers with exclusives. Nintendo still knows what they're doing.

  • Doctor Strangelove is relevant again.

  • Artistic expression is dead. Creators seek not to appease an audience, but a metric.

  • Some people reach their 80s and still don't know what they're trying to achieve. Many of them hold federal office.

  • Did I already mention the whiskey?
