Nathan Tyree: Boyda
last night I attended a fundraiser for Nancy Boyda. My congress woman hugged me.

Nathan Tyree: The aftermath

Senator Obama was scheduled to speak at 6. Me and Trev got to the WW I Memorial at 1. Rather, we passed it at 1. We parked a mile south and walked to the back of the line. The queue stretched for blocks. It took until three to get inside the park. Security was tight. I half expected them to make me remove my shoes.

Through the line Trev and I became part of a group: A special Ed teacher, a school administrator, a pilot, a bartender, a student and us to IT guys morphed into a cohort. The waiting was all.

Hours more. Then Mayor Cleaver electrified the crowd. Ike Skelton put us all to sleep. Governor Sebelius got us going again. Other speakers came and went, but we were just waiting. Then Barack came on stage. The crowd surged ahead. The air nearly crackled with the excitement. I heard a small boy ask “Is that REALLY him?”.

Obama’s speech was powerful. He set out a plan for the future and went after McCain on healthcare. I felt inspired. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had at a political rally.

Tomorrow morning I will be in Independence, Mo canvassing for Obama. Then, in the evening I will be at the Liberty Memorial For a rally. I cannot wait to see Senator Obama speak.
