Yesterday, when Sarah Palin shrieked that Obama "pals around with terrorists" (a nasty little racially tinged lie, by the way) I thought: do they really want to go there? I mean, considering her husband and all and considering McCain's good buddy Chuck Keating (and the bribes McCain took) Well, I'm not the only person thinking these things:

Nathan Tyree: Obama Wins Debate

Yesterday morning, many hours before the debate, John McCain's campaign began running ads declaring that he had won the upcoming debate. At the time it seemed premature. Now it seems laughable. McCain's debate performance was muddled. He seemed confused during some answers. He repeated the same tired talking points and catch phrases over and over. He even mixed up some of his talking points, using them inappropriately.

To be fair, Obama tried too hard to be concise and not professorial, and in doing so lost some of his normal nuance. Still, Obama was able to present himself as the rational, knowledgeable candidate. McCain seemed mean and petty with his constant demands that Obama didn’t understand certain things (a tactic that McCain loves is to belittle his opponents, especially when they are right and he is wrong (and on that point, Obama should have pushed him on the difference between strategy and tactics, as McCain is clearly the one who does not understand, but I digress)).

Final result, Obama won the debate.
