Nathan Tyree: Wii Indeed

I am now the proud owner of a Wii. I cannot lie, boxing left me a bit sore. It’s the first time ever that a video game has actually been a work out. It’s great fun. Incredible, actually. So far I only have the Wii Sports game, but will be looking to build a collection of games. To that end I am taking suggestions. What are the best games? I already know that I want Manhunt 2. Which other games should I get? Is the new Mario Galaxy game cool? Help me out, kids.

Nathan Tyree: A Cartesian Argument for Dualism

1. I can know with certainty that I exist (from Descartes)
2. I cannot know with certainty that my body exists (also from Descartes)
3. Therefore I am not my body.
4. It follows then that if I exist but am not my body that I must be my soul.


Personally I don’t buy this argument. There are several flaws with the reasoning, but it does lead one down interesting roads.

I don’t watch much TeeVee so I didn’t see this when it happened. The quote below is culled from an article on yahoo news. It seems that some beauty contestant gave this spiel in answer to a question about the inability of many Americans to locate nations and states on maps.

This shall be my new motto:

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us."
