Nathan Tyree: A Band
Some friends and I have decided to start a band. We’re going to be called Lemmy’s Carbuncle. The band will make experimental music. I will update everyone with details as they arise.

The other band name under consideration is:

The Reverend Jim Jones’ Questionable Pants Tent

Nathan Tyree: For David
By the by, when you thought I was being condescending before, I wasn’t. During the course of the conversation you said: I'd like to see your concept of odds applied to horse racing., which I thought was odd if you knew much about horseracing. I thought that perhaps you didn’t, in fact, know very much about that sport (and that perhaps you, like many other, thought that since there are posted ‘odds’ for a race that someone was actually calculating the probability that a given horse would win). I filed that piece of information away and moved on.

Then you said: I should point out the odds are actually 37:1, and not 38:1 as I kept saying above.. Your statement was, obviously, correct. But, I noticed something… when you use the term ‘odds’ you use it in the (correct) mathematical form, and not in the common gambling form (which is favored by the bulk of gamblers- when a gambler says odds they mean ‘payout’, when they mean chance of winning they say probability or ‘chances’).

I connected those two bits of info and concluded that you were likely not a gambler. That’s why I responded to the horse thing the way I did. You took offense, and I tried to explain- but I wasn’t careful in how I chose my words. When I said that you were incorrect I meant that you were incorrect in the usage that is common among gamblers. Obviously the math was right.

Anyway, I wanted to try to clear that up.

And to say that I am sorry.
