Nathan Tyree: Stygiophilia
Often times it’s about voice more than anything else. I’ll have a story idea (a character or a snippet of plot) bouncing around my head for weeks or months (or, in the case of King of Citizen Bands, years) before I can actually write it down. The reason is: I haven’t found the voice.
I’ve had this longish, brutalist type idea for a few months now. It’s a little surreal; it’s a little ugly; it’s a little beautiful. I’ve even had a title for a while: Stygiophilia.
Two days ago I found the voice. The thing is coming fast now. I think that I may well have an entire novel in 40 days. That’s a first draft, of course.
Damn
