Nathan Tyree: Ethics
I've been thinking about this lately. The fireworks started it. Fireworks on July 4th are meant to be symbolic of rockets and bombs. They are, in short, a glorification of war. We never think about that (we just enjoy the pretty colors), but that is what they are.

That realization led to think about other things that we just accept without any thought. It seems that we are surrounded by things that are ethically shaky (at best) but that we simply take and never consider. Hell, public service announcments tout them as being good, so they must be. Right?

So what the fuck am I talking about?

D.A.R.E.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a publicly funded program that teaches children to spy on their friends and family. Further, these kids are taught that they should Narc on those they love. And never mind that the statistics show that kids who undergo the DARE program are more likely to abuse drugs than those who don't.

How about Neighborhood Watch? Okay kids, let spy on our neighbors, shall we. And for extra credit: who can tell me what Quisling is remembered for?

And how about green ketchup? Now there is something we should all fear.

Up next: the Patriot act. John Ashcroft's baby. Read some of it and you'll realize that we are now living in Germany circa 1939.

The War on Drugs
The greatest threat to freedom and liberty ever concieved.

But then, maybe these are all part of the same thing. Symptoms of the same disease, so to speak.

Anyhoo. I was just thinking.

Nathan Tyree: Credits
Updated: So I'm working on adding a complete list of my publishing credits to my web site. It's only about a third of the way complete, and it looks like shit. But I'm too tired to work on it anymore tonight.

You can see it here: CREDITS
Okay, I've got it done. I didn't list any of the stuff from Epinions, Themestream, Ciao, Shareinputs or Oscar tech. I don't really count that stuff. But the rest is listed.
I'm going to watch fireworks tonight. The city of Oswego holds their celebration a day late. I'm not looking forward to this. Not at all.

Nathan Tyree: Hawks and Hand Saws
I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space... were it not that I have bad dreams.

So, was Hamlet crazy?

Nathan Tyree: Links
When I place a hyperlink in one of my posts it only seems to work for a day or so. Then it just stops functioning. Can anyone tell me why?
