Nathan Tyree: clarity
I suppose that I should strive for greater clarity. I, like Archie, dislike "issue advertising." I hate the anti-drug ads (of all stripes) that inundate us daily. They are a pointless, and moronic, waste of time. These ads tend to be badly written, and targeted at some non-existent group. Perhaps my favorite quote from an anti-drug ad is: "Marijuana, it wont take you nowhere." Never mind that the implication is that it will take you somewhere. I also love the ad featuring a pretty teenage girl explaining that while using pot she was willing to copulate with anyone who asked. That ad certainly convinced untold legions of teenage boys to buy grass and offer it to pretty girls.

All that, though, is beside the point.

Drugs are likely bad for you, but that isn't the ad council's business. Ditto cigarettes. Cars (and their effects) kill more people in a year than cigarettes have killed in their history. No one runs anti-car ads. 200,000 die each year in "slip and fall" accidents. The ad council isn't trumpeting adhesive fish for your shower.

We are told that pot smokers accidentally fund terrorists. It is not often pointed out that most Al Queda funding comes from gasoline, tires, condoms, telephones, vaseline, and many other harmless products you buy every day.

See, if we are going to spend money and time warning people of the evils of products, I think we should be equal oppurtunity.

But then, everyone knows I'm crazy.
