Nathan Tyree: My Place on the Food Chain
For a long time I’ve considered becoming a vegetarian. Not a Vegan, mind you, I’m not giving up cheese for any body. The thing is, despite my empathy for other animals, I can’t quite get around my need for meat. Understand that I don’t eat a lot of meat: many weeks I eat almost no meat at all. But, sometimes I do crave eggs and bacon, or an omelet with sausage in it, or a turkey sandwich.

Today I think I found the answer: I will no longer eat any mammal. All mammalians are hence forth off the plate. I can still eat birds, reptiles, fish, crustaceans, cephalopods (not squid or octopi, though, for different reasons they are also out of the question), but no fellow mammal will die for my dinner.

Now here’s the question: what do I call myself? A Non-Mammalivore? Ideas?
