Senator and former presidential hopeful John Kerry announced today that he will fillibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to join the ranks of the supreme court.

I have really no interest in politics most of the time, but I am curious as to who Alito is and why Kerry doesn't want him on the supreme court.

I think enough Dems will vote with Republicans to avoid a filibuster. It's another interesting move by Kerry in a string of recent outspokeness.
