Nathan Tyree: Andy Kaufman IS alive
I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was Bob Zamuda, or maybe Jim Carrey, or a rabid fan pulling a joke. I knew it was funny.
Then, early this morning in Wal Mart in Joplin, MO I saw him in the distance. He was berating an elderly greeter. Andy looked older, a little stooped, a little worn. But It was him. It was Andy Kaufman.
I walked over slowly and said: "is it really you?"
His eyes gleamed. A strange look entered his face. :"Don't tell anyone you saw me here!"
"But Andy," I said. "everyone knows you're going on a national Starbucks and wal mart tour."
"They aren't supposed to believe it," he replied. Then he turned and walked away.
So that's it. Andy Kaufman really is alive! Look for him at a Wal Mart near you.
