boat: where did metallica go?

i just acquired my copy of the new metallica cd yesterday......i've been a 'tallica fan for about six of seven years.....my close friends say that i am addicted to them.....after listening to this new cd that i have been waiting a couple years for.....i am VERY disapointed. it flat out sucked!!!! one decient song on the whole cd...thats it, just one. they sounded like a two-bit garage band that have been playing for about two months before recording this thing. i'm heart broken and ashamed to call myself a fan after hearing it. i never thought the day would come. i don't know who the hell is singing and playing on this cd, but it sure isn't metallica.

Mood: disapointed to say the least
Music: HA!!!! if you call it music.

I saw that CD come out and I was scared. I thought it might suck, and I guess I was right.

I disagree. While they'll never again be as good as the Master of Puppet days (AWESOME!!!), St.Anger is a step up from Load/Reload, and tends to grow on you. I felt the same way as you on my first listen, but after a while, I realized it wasn't all that bad.

That said, it still seems as if they're trying to appeal to the 12-16 year old demographic (I cite "I'M MADLY IN ANGER WITH YOOOUUUARGHHAHAHAYEAH") that buys clothing from Hot Topic and keeps their Metallica albums right next to their KoRn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park CDs. That much is unfortunate.

fuzmeister - (The Real ST)

Never was a big Metallica fan myself - metal music, I think, peaked at its combination with opera in the Finnish band Nightwish. That's how I feel anyway - I'll stick to my rock and video game music.

Ah - I don't like any of the bands cited by Paul either. I enjoyed Linkin Park for a while until I realized how every one of their songs sends this message of bullshit about how everything is dark and all this. I'm going to stick to Beatles, Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Carbon Leaf, and more video game OSTs then you can shake a guitar at.

If you like Nightwish, you'll probably bands like will like Helloween, Sonata Artica, and Blind Guardian (I got Bado into these bands =D). I'll IM some suggestions to you later. Nightwish is definitely not the pinnacle of extreme metal. =P
